As designers, our role in an Industry-sensitive culture is to design the outcome of product development contributing to society. Designs use culture and cultural values, which play an influential role. Besides using culture and cultural values, one other important factor is bringing empathy to our designs.
One example is when I first got my first ever iPhone, back then I was Primary 1. Getting an iPhone is a blessing during my time, even though it was passed down from my father. To me, it was still a new phone. Mind you the version of that iPhone was the first iPhone that was produced in 2007. Thought to myself back then was “Yay! I got my first ever smartphone.”
However, nowadays kids in their 2/3 years old have the latest smart devices in front of them while they are eating. While Primary and Secondary School students are encouraged to purchase smartphones or devices for educational purposes, before all this we only can use papers to write our notes on.
Therefore, this shows how fast the world changes, using these important factors help society to build advancement in technology for this example. With these factors, it helps to ensure that the designed journey is beneficial and delivering its values, and keep allows customers to experience a top-of-mind issue.
